Independence

Independence denotes freedom from something – a country, a relationship, a governing power of any kind.  Toddlers want to be independent, to do things themselves.  Teens want to be independent and not be told what to do.   Twenty-somethings want to be independent and begin their own life out from under their parents’ roof.  Seniors do not want to lose their independence.
I am blessed to live in a country established by men who fought for independence.  Moving from a monarchy to a democracy meant taking a huge step.  It meant many had to die.  It allowed for new thought.  It gave birth to a new country based on a new set of rules grounded in Biblical truth.  Independence was a good thing.
Thank you, Lord, for those who took the risk for independence.  May I never take that for granted.
