Thankful Thursday

God provides in our life is so many awesome ways. He gives us blessings over and above what we could even ask or imagine. Often though the little, everyday blessings are overlooked by the mundane and sometimes heartbreaks of the day.

I have been reminded lately of God's provision of good health in our family. Many today are struggling with little ones who are dealing with illnesses both routine and tragic. God for some reason has chosen to provide my family with healthy bodies today. I realize that may change in an instant, but for today I am thankful. If God does change that dynamic, I must still choose to thank Him.

Today, God chose to provide sunshine. Honestly, I am very thankful for that as He has blessed us with much rain over the last week.

The roses on my desk remind me of how thankful I am for a wonderful husband who shows his love for me in many obvious ways.

My children seem to be in a constant state of motion and continual line of conversation. Often the busyness and noise frustrate me, but when I stop and think, I am reminded to be thankful for siblings who, on occasion, communicate and play with each other. Together they learn. Together they grow. Forever I will be thankful for their relationship.

I am thankful for the mind God gave me to think, to imagine, to reason, to ponder, and to relate. I, along with many other moms, wake with a mental list of who needs to be where when with what and with whom. It is mentally draining, but then my little one turns the corner into my office. She is dressed from head to toe as a princess, or Ruth, or whomever else she chooses. Her mind is not filled with logistics, but swirls with stories, songs, and pictures. God is so gracious to give us that range of abilities in our minds.

Psalm 37:4 has become more precious to me over the years: Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart. God doesn't promise deals, nor does he promise us a magical land where we get all we want. He wants us to delight in Him as our LORD and provider. When that happens, our desires become His. His will becomes superimposed on our hearts. He provides just what we need.
